GLAPN partners with the LGBTQ History Senior Capstone at Portland State University to produce oral histories that record the stories, struggles, and triumphs of LGBTQ elders in the Pacific Northwest.

Click below to listen to an oral history interview with George Nicola recorded on February 14, 2009. Mr. Nicola discussed his role in the nascent Gay Rights movement in Portland in the early 1970s and the writing of the first gay rights bill and lobbying for its passage. He also discussed a little bit why he became involved in the movement, the changes over the years in the public perception of gays and their own perceptions of themselves, and what he felt their accomplishments were today.
